Paws News September 2016
Hello everyone! Welcome to Paws News.
One of the questions we are asked quite often is what a pet owner should do if their pet passes away at home. Resting Paws offers a pick-up service either at home or Veterinary Clinic (see under the services tab on the website for conditions).
If your pet passes away during the day give us a call and we will guide you. We will make arrangements to either pick up your pet or for you to bring him/her to us.
One of the first things you need to do is to place something absorbent under the back part of your pet…they do loose bodily functions.
When we come to pick up your pet we will place him/her on a stretcher (for pets over 25 lbs) and wrap him in a blanket. Smaller pets are placed in a basket and wrapped in a blanket.
If you decide to bring your pet to us you can place it in its carrier or bring it on his/her bed, cushion or blanket.
If your pet passes away during the night, place something absorbent under his/her back part. Tuck the legs in as much as possible and wrap him/her in a blanket tightly. This will make it easier for us to pick up or for you to bring your pet in the morning. If your pet weighs more than 35 lbs. put it in a cool place (basement/garage floor) and place bags of ice around the pet (in summer time). If you have a small pet and you are comfortable doing so, place him/her in the freezer. If the freezer is not an option follow the same steps as for a larger pet. Call us in the morning..we are usually up by 6:30 a.m. and we will make arrangements for pick up or if you choose drop-off of your pet.
This month we will take part in the Wiggle-Waggle Walk-a-thon (September 11 at Queen Julianna Park)
and the event hosted by Westies in Need ( September 25 at Dogz Canine Sports Centre, 3859 Carling Ave.)
